ELÇİN ACUN (1982) lives and works in İstanbul.
Following her undergraduate and graduate studies at the Photography Department of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, she has conducted her Proficiency in Arts in 2024 and is now an academician at the same department.
She produces concept-driven, fictional works using lens-based media, focusing on themes such as the body, gender, public/private space, visibility, feminism, and queer identity—topics that also reflect her own experiences and questions of social existence. Her practice combines photography’s openness to chance and emotional layering with performative video and installation, where she often embodies imaginary characters to explore and disrupt normative structures tied to identity, time, and the body.
She had 3 solo exhibitions: 'Allegory of a Dream' at Bilsart, İstanbul (2021); 'Hayalî Temaşa' at Eldem Sanat Alanı, Eskişehir (2020) and 'Öyküsü Olmayan' at Toz Artist Run Space, İstanbul (2017).
Her works have been exhibited at Daire Sanat, İstanbul (2009); CDA Projects, İstanbul (2010); Aspects of Balkan Photography, Thessaloniki (2012); International Meeting of Photography, Plovdiv (2012); Mixer, İstanbul (2013); Mamut Art Project, İstanbul (2016); Artist 2017, İstanbul (2017); Indie Gallery, Tel Aviv (2019); Hinterland Gallery, Vienna (2020); İstanbul Billboard Festival (2020) and Anna Laudel Gallery, İstanbul (2021) among many others.
She has attended various workshops such as ‘The Book Lab’ by Frederic Lezmi, Poligon ‘The Shooting Gallery’, İstanbul (2013) and ‘Personal Storytelling’ by Arja Hyytiäinen, GAPO & SALT, İstanbul (2015) as well as conducting cyanotype workshops herself.
She is one of the co-founders of Koli Art Space and an affiliate of PLATFORM by GAPO.
