EKİN ÇEKİÇ - HORSEPITAL

The Hippodrome of Veliefendi in İstanbul, known by everyone but neglected by the majority except the horse racing fans, is a place that is almost stuck in the day it was built. While thinking about this, I realized that people who go there would rather prefer to be unseen. So consequently, the place is somehow forgotten even by the time itself. The reason people do not want to be seen is exactly why they are there. They go there to wear a cloak of invisibility in order to evade the expectations and responsibilities of their regular lives, and lead a second life in unity with the horses. While racing tends to heal people's wounds inflicted by their obligations, it creates an obligatory life for the horses, inflicting wounds on them, which are then treated in the ‘horsepital’.
