EKİN ÇEKİÇ - 0XYMORON

'Oxymoron' is a body of work born from my desire to question photography’s direct relationship to both reality and myself. I took these photographs with a paradoxical impulse — sometimes just to remember, sometimes in hopes of forgetting. Over time, I realized I was no longer content with being a mere witness. I began to create situations in which I could step into the frame — to become the subject rather than the observer.

I looked at the sky to feel my own existence, and what I saw was light. I walked the streets and came face to face with my fears, my contradictions, my curiosities. My insecurities followed me like mud stuck to my feet — always present, always weighing me down.

What began as an attempt to narrate the outside world gradually turned inward. I started to break the distance I had placed between myself and the image. Though I still occupied the role of the witness, I sometimes refused to let anything mediate that experience. No story, no distance, no veil — only the raw act of seeing and being seen.

With 'Oxymoron', I invite the viewer into this in-between space — where clarity and confusion coexist, and where photography becomes both mirror and mask.
